Monteverdi’s Vespers at the 2010 Proms

March 10, 2013

From the archives: the 2010 performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers at the BBC Proms conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner. The performance at the Royal Albert Hall, in which the Monteverdi Choir was joined by the London Oratory Junior Choir and the Schola Cantorum of the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School, marked the 400th anniversary of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610. The instrumentalists came from the English Baroque Soloists and His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts. There were two further performances at the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford and at Durham Cathedral. (This is the same performance which was recently posted over at The Chant Cafe although this slightly longer video includes an interview with the conductor.)
